The information thus furnished has enabled me to cause the necessary steps to be taken to prevent this locality from being infected by a serious epidemic, as I am happy to be able to state to Your Lordship that Cholera in the Colony has been reported to me and that from the last account there is a diminution in the number of cases.
The Chinese at Amoy, 20 in number, assuming Dr. Adams, the Health Officer, has been energetic and careful in the performance of his duties, and no vessel from the Coast has been allowed to communicate with the shore until after the most rigid examination.
I am much indebted to W. Henry Alabaster for the amenity he has shown to keep me fully informed regarding this matter, and I have caused him to be thanked for the consideration he has shown for the interests of this Colony.
